Laser Envy

LaserCutTest

Feast your eyes on our newest coming-soon option for custom invitations! I’ve been working with our printing shop to be able to offer custom laser cut designs. We hovered over the machine yesterday watching this design unfold. It was a magical experience, watching this tiny laser cut out intricate circles and gear shapes in this trial run, shown above. It’s fun to watch the machine decide where to start and what pieces to cut out next. This was a test for an actual invitation order. I’ll share photos later of the final piece.

Apparently this laser can cut through metal too, look out! We’re still in the discovery process to see how it works on different paper stocks. It will probably work best on thicker cover weight stocks rather than thinner text weight paper where the heat would likely burn the edges. The machine we tested on is a slightly older model, which took about 12 minutes to cut out this design on one sheet of paper. We’re unsure yet if this can be sped up. A newer machine may be the solution to that question, and the slower speed may be a factor in pricing. But once they figure cost and file setup procedures, we will have an exciting new option to offer for invitations! I can’t wait. The possibilities are endless!
