I am sooo excited to announce (the still unbelievable news!) that we will have a mini in our midst come November 2013! A special shout out to Loren Malin Photography for helping us set up our Venn Diagram baby announcement idea. We still have the hula hoops swooshing around in the trunk!
We just had our 8 week ultrasound on Friday, and got to see the second image of our little speck, just chillin’ and beating it’s tiny little heart out. I’m so excited, and a little terrified :•) I can’t wait to see what this little person is like. It’s crazy to love someone so much when you don’t even know who they are.
This little one won’t be coming until mid November, however there will be some changes to how the business will need to run for now and after baby arrives.
The first change really was the simplification of the business, noted in the previous post about concentrating only on invitation design for now, and no longer offering commercial dressmaking services.
The second is that since the Speck basically hogs most of my energy right now, I’ve been trying to cut back a little on the amount of projects I can possibly take per week. This is a huge challenge and so far through April and most of May I have been somewhat unsuccessful, ha. I often get questions about if the design work at one•little•m is done by a team of people or just me. It’s just me :•) ..aside from my wonderful staff of assembly ladies to help me bear that portion of it, it’s often a lot to manage, but I’m thrilled to have so much work coming.
I have also created a tool that should help :
I now have an AVAILABILITY CALENDAR so customers can check and see what weeks are available for their project to ship. This will be very important for project management from here on out.
Finally, during NOVEMBER through JANUARY 1, no orders will be taken or processed during this time. It’s baby time! This is my first child, and I have no idea what to expect as far as how to make the transition between being a mom and being a mom who can multitask baby with invitation projects with success. I simply don’t know until it happens. When I come back in January I plan to cut my weekly load to part time for a little while, so instead of 7 projects per week it may need to be more like 3. Again, to be determined when the time comes.
These temporary changes may require a bit of grace among future customers, perhaps just a bit of pre-planning. And of course I’m biased, but I think it’s for a pretty great cause. I mean look how cute our little bean is with it’s tiny leg buds :•)
Best,
Melissa & mini
