Beth’s 5 Year Cancerversary Invitation

Melissa’s younger sister Beth was diagnosed with cancer in her early 20’s. That kind of news is devastating no matter the age, but it was a complete shock for someone so young. Her course of treatments took time, but by her 25th birthday the doctors had given her the all-important NED: No Evidence of Disease. This year, with her 5-year cancerversary and her 30th birthday on the same weekend, she decided to throw a party. Of course, we knew someone who could handle creating a cancerversary invitation for this special event!

The inspiration for this design came from Beth herself: Last year she donated 8″ of her hair to Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths. Her donation, along with others, was used to create a wig for a woman in need. Beth emerged with a fabulous and spunky pixie cut, a perfect symbol of her transformation through her recovery.

Every design is personal for the client, but this one was especially so. That’s why Melissa loved the idea of using Beth’s silhouette for the invitation. What better way to celebrate someone than to see them for who they are! Melissa combined a fun watercolor texture in Beth’s favorite colors with her spunky silhouette to create a perfect representation of this new stage in her life.

The invite was printed on a 100# eggshell cover stock and thick-carded with another layer to create a piece that felt substantial in-hand. The laser-cut envelope liner was printed in the same watercolor pattern, creating a striking contrast with a shimmery pearlescent outer envelope. Finally, the pink ribbon wax seal added both a subtle message and a pop of color.

Overall, it came together in a piece that was fun with a touch of class – just like Beth! We loved being able to share this special celebration, and it was an honor to create this invitation for her. Olivia, our daughter, thought so too!
